@chadkoh (Fun fact: one of my very first jobs was working as a program assistant at the The University of British Columbia Centre Intercultural Communication. That summer we worked with members of Korea Telecom's leadership team on management skills for a global workforce. That was more than 25 years ago!)

@crossingthethreshold I think of the guides I had... and what their life might be like now. They were really honest with us once we were out in the desert, away from prying eyes.

@crossingthethreshold That sounds amazing. There is probably a historical project out there that we could submit our photos and slides to in order to preserve the past. If you find one please let me know!

@chrisaldrich Just listened to the ep. Some good points brought up, especially about constantly re-inventing the wheel. It is a common trope in computer science for us to go back and browse the libraries of the 1970s (or earlier!) and dust things of to try and re-implement in a modern context. So many great ideas in the past, it is worth having a walk and a listen to get inspired!

@mejh I have about a dozen iPhoto libs on my 12TB Synology that I really need to collate. But I refuse to use Adobe products.
Btw, I forgot to ask about your camera setup. What are you shooting on when you are off in Antarctica etc?

@maique love that shirt! 😭

@jean Sorry to see you go, but congratulations on the house and I look forward to continued photos of the spectacular Oregon coast! 🤩

@mejh I am using Photos too, but I really wish I had Aperture back. I have been looking at some alternatives (on1 and Capture One) since I need something that can manage photos on my Synology. I have a few hundred gigs worth of photos, and they all can’t fit in my MBA.

@starrwulfe it was a very enjoyable trip. I am looking forward to going again for a bit longer.

@jedda considering I am currently in Taiwan right now, I totally planned on a similar shot, but between all the moving around and the museum, we just didn’t have the opportunity to get a boba🧋

@mejh please let me know your Signal or Line or contact me via chadkohalyk.com/contact/ and let’s try to set something up!

@mejh That sounds great! We are heading to Jiufen today. Will be back tomorrow staying up in Zhongshan district. We leave on Saturday. Will confer with my family schedule to see if there is an open time. Is evening doable by you? (kids are usually wanting to spend the evenings at the hotel TikToking 😒

They’re my soothing koans to calm the phantom pain of my long-amputated conscience
👏 👏 👏
Epic line. However in the case of amputation, you actually had a limb at one point. Many people are so trapped in individualism that they never had their conscience developed in the first place.

@mejh nope! I am running on very basic knowledge. Completely ignorant, terrible tourist who only knows very few words. If you have recommendations (or warnings!) I am forever grateful.

@jedda Ice Cubes is great! Free, tons of features, looks nice, and very active development.

@maique This looks like a scene in a horror movie where an innocent person looking at their phone realizes that they are soon to be a victim when the shadow of the giant spider is cast over them 😱😱😱
Amazing composition! 👏
